Bibb County School District Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones and Peyton Anderson Foundation President Karen J. Lambert announced at today’s meeting of the OneMacon Business Education Partnership (BEP) that the Peyton Anderson Foundation generously funded all open Bibb County School District funding requests through DonorsChoose on Giving Tuesday, December 3. Additionally, DonorsChoose matched all donations in honor of Giving Tuesday. In all, the Peyton Anderson Foundation funded more than 50 Bibb County projects, donating about $18,000. With the match by DonorsChoose, about $36,000 in requests were funded.

“The Peyton Anderson Foundation is proud to support the extraordinary efforts of Bibb County teachers and their commitment to creative learning. As a surprise, in honor of GivingTuesday, we fulfilled all of the pending requests of the Bibb County School District’s DonorsChoose projects. A quality education for Macon-Bibb students is one of the highest priorities of our Board of Trustees,” Lambert said.
Project requests included lab equipment, educational toolkits and games, flexible seating, books and materials for reading nooks, tablets and technology, classroom supplies and art supplies. One of the projects funded by the donation was “Not Your Traditional A/V Club!” by Heritage Elementary teacher Thomas Cote. Cote requested $2,330.81 to fund computers and tablets to take the school’s A/V Club to the next level.

“Our educational community owes the Peyton Anderson Foundation a huge thank you. Their donation will play a vital role in developing our students into leaders within the community and globally,” Cote said. “During the first few weeks of school, my Audio Visual Club met and discussed what tools we would need to enhance our digital impact in the community. One of our 10-year-old students suggested we increase the digital footprint by creating new videos and podcasts. The students wanted to start revamping our technology components and decided the 27-inch iMac would be the foundation for developing a professional setup for editing video and audio. Our club, comprised of technology-savvy eight- and 10-year-olds, is so excited to conquer all digital media with leadership-focused content. As an educator in Bibb County Schools, it is inherently critical that I provide my students with the ability to communicate and share their voice with the world. This donation will undoubtedly make this possible.”
