(Editor’s Note: The below is a letter sent to employees and key stakeholders from Chuck Perry, CEO.)

EMC Engineering Services, Inc. was founded in 1978 and had one office in Savannah. Today we are across the state in Statesboro, Augusta, Brunswick, Albany, Valdosta, Columbus, Thomaston, Warner Robins, and Atlanta and have participated in projects all across the country.

The services we provide include civil engineering, surveying, local planning, landscape architecture, and construction phase services.

Over our 40+ years, EMC has seen its own share of successes and challenges through economic upticks and downturns. We weathered the recession and became a stronger, leaner company and team because of it. I’m glad to say that the economy appears to have recovered and that we are seeing growth in the many markets we serve. These markets include municipalities, government agencies, industries, development authorities, architects, commercial investors, and residential developers.

Setting goals and making plans to achieve those goals is something we all do, personally and as an organization. Our organization’s set of goals is our Strategic Plan. The latest version of our Strategic Plan was developed in 2016, and it outlined goals for our company as a whole. The goal topics include strategic focus areas of managed growth, company-wide communication, financial strength, human resources, and marketing and business development. Teams were formed to develop, implement, and monitor the goals’ measurable results.

In my opinion, those measurable results show that these teams have done pretty darn good work across the board. Based on Zweig survey results, you agree. I am proud to say that we have again been awarded a spot on the prestigious Best Firms to Work For list. This ranking honors multidiscipline firms like ours who have created an outstanding workplace environment.

To the question “Do you believe your firm should qualify as one of the best firms in the industry to work for?” 98% of you said yes. Extra write-in explanations included:

•          Longevity, experienced managers, financial success, company culture

•          Our firm cares about its employees

•          Great work environment, benefits, and people

•          EMC invests in their people

•          EMC’s reputation in the industry as a top firm to work for is without question

Other good news is that EMC was again named to the Zweig Hot Firms list. The Hot Firms designation is based on 3-year comparisons of financial performance and recognizes the top 100 fastest-growing architectural, engineering, planning, and environmental consulting firms across the United States and Canada. EMC has been able to share our financial success with all of you by providing generous annual pay increases, increasing our 401(k) matching contribution, and distribution of annual bonuses.

Since 2016, our company has invested over $2M in vehicles, equipment, and software that aids all of us in being able to do our jobs better and more efficiently. This lets us bring the best value and services to our clients in fulfillment of our Vision Statement: EMC strives to be the firm of choice through client satisfaction and delivery of quality professional services.

So far 2019 is off to a great start. We are expanding our geographic service area to Atlanta and are excited by the growth potential in that market. Looking to our future, I look forward to seeing what our team can achieve in the remaining months of 2019 and in the years to come.
