Get Creative this Summer! Ossabaw Island Summertime Creative Trips

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, May 17th, 2019

Creative types can get away this summer to Ossabaw Island for a day trip or a two-night retreat to make art, music or literature on the Georgia coast. Participants bring their own materials to paint, sketch, write, compose music, or shoot photos on this unspoiled barrier island just south of Savannah. These creative trips are sponsored and hosted by the Ossabaw Island Foundation.

An Ossabaw Island visit includes excellent art-making inspiration: lush maritime forests and marsh wetlands, 19th- and 20th-century historic buildings, and possible sightings of a variety of wildlife including wading birds and feral hogs, as well as free-roaming domesticated donkeys, and perhaps an alligator. Take short hikes on forest and marsh-side trails.

The Ossabaw Island Creative Day Trip (June 1) offers no-agenda creative time for experienced artists, writers or musicians on Ossabaw Island's North End. For non-artists or beginners who wish to attend, a cell-phone photo safari/instruction workshop will be led by photographer Stephen B. Morton. An optional history walking tour is part of the day's activities.  This trip is 'Bring Your Own Lunch."   Depart/return from Delegal Creek Marina, 1 Marina Drive, Skidaway Island.Trip details are online, and also are emailed one week before the trip to those who sign up.
