Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Wednesday, April 10th, 2019

Robins’ military members aren’t the only ones who sacrifice their lives for the sake of the mission.

There are also hundreds of children at Robins who make untold sacrifices every day.

April is Month of the Military Child, a time to celebrate and honor children of military members.

Shantel Chapman, Child and Youth Programs Flight Chief at Robins, said Robins’ child and youth programs will celebrate the month with numerous activities and events.

On April 22, children at the Youth Center will create purple bracelets. April 23, children at the Youth Center will be making homemade purple ice-cream, and on April 24, the children will make purple slime at the center.

Robins Youth Center will round out the week with ‘Crazy Sock’ day on April 25 and ‘Purple Up” Day where children wear a purple shirt on April 26.

Purple is the chosen color for the month as it is a combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine red and Navy blue; blended to create a wave of purple flowing across the nation. The color illustrates how all military children and their families are appreciated for all they do.

Chapman said April is a special time for Robins.

“Month of the Military Child is time to formally recognize the sacrifices our children make when sharing their mothers and fathers as they protect and defend our rights as U.S. citizens,” she said. “It is important to Robins to acknowledge and celebrate through programs such as Robins Youth Center to where they have other children/youth who can relate to life as a military child.”
