Dashboard U.S. and NewTown Macon announced Bright City -- a major public art installation in Macon, GA, featuring images by 11 local and national photographers as they detail what makes the city wholly unique. Artists include Sydney A. Foster (Montgomery, AL), Andrew Turner (Atlanta, GA), and Matthew Smith (Macon, GA) and more, all of whom have shown that through their lens they can transform the everyday into something curious and illuminate the emotional state of this booming Georgia city.

“We’re excited to showcase what makes Macon unique from the varying perspectives of local and nonlocal artists,” Dashboard’s Executive Director Beth Malone said. “Dash specializes in making art in nontraditional spaces and Bright City has presented a really interesting platform for us to explore.”

NewTown prompted Dashboard to create an art experience that would highlight the beautiful alley system that runs through Macon’s downtown area. The large light boxes will create a more inviting space for pedestrian traffic while the images themselves engage passersby with the unique character of Macon. The photographs will be installed along 2nd Street Lane creating an immersive and more convenient walking path through downtown.

“Our alleys are a unique asset to our urban core that call for exploration. Bright City will invite downtown regulars and first-time visitors to experience our city in a new way, through the eyes of talented photographers and through the historic walkways that connect downtown Macon,” NewTown’s Director of Place Emily Hopkins said.

In addition to the outdoor experience, Bright City will also include a gallery exhibition of photographs at NewTown Macon. The alleyway installation and gallery show will be on view from March 15 - May 17, 2019. An opening event will take place March 15 from 7-10PM at NewTown Macon and 2nd Street Lane. Drinks will be served, and sounds will be provided by DJ B3. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Bright City is curated & produced by Dashboard, presented by NewTown Macon, and made possible with support from The Community Foundation of Central Georgia. The show features: Maryann Bates, Camylla Battani, Stephanie DeMer, Brandon English, Sydney A. Foster, Curtis Hertwig, Nathan Jones, Matt Odom, Matthew Smith, Andrew Turner, Jessica Whitley.
