Georgia DOT to Hold Detour Open House for Proposed Railroad Bridge Projects in Macon

The Georgia DOT will hold a Detour Open House Tuesday, Mar. 5, 2019 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Georgia Department of Transportation Macon Area Office on 4499 Riverside Drive, Macon, GA. The event regards offsite detours for two proposed projects:

P.I. No. 0014895 - Bibb County, which proposes to increase the vertical clearance of the bridge over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks on Georgia 247/US 41/Pio Nono Avenue in Macon. The bridge would be raised by approximately nine inches, bringing it up to current Norfolk Southern Railroad standards. The proposed detour route would go approximately 4.1 miles and utilize Georgia 74, I-75 and Georgia 19/US 180/Vineville Avenue.

P.I. No. 0014899 - Bibb County, which proposes to replace the bridge on College Street over the Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks. The structure was built in the mid-to-late 19th century and is in poor structural condition with vertical clearance currently below current Norfolk Southern Railroad standards. The proposed detour route would go approximately 1.27 miles and utilize Oglethorpe Street, 1st Street, Pine Street and Forsyth Street.

The Open House will provide the public with an opportunity to view the proposed detours, ask questions and comment on the project and the proposed detour. The event will be informal and citizens are invited to attend any time during the hours. There will be no formal presentation. A court reporter will be present to allow the public the opportunity to verbally comment.
