Light More Homes Programming Contest Winners Announced

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018

The 11th Annual Light More Homes benefit for Macon Area Habitat for Humanity will recognize winners of the annual programming contest Wednesday, December 12 at 6:30pm at Chick-fil-A on Tom Hill Sr. Blvd.  Returning host sponsor David Clark, Owner/Operator of Chick-fil-A Tom Hill Sr. Blvd. and Andrews, Hammock & Powell, along with presenting sponsor Raffield Tire Master and numerous additional sponsors will be on hand to share in the announcement.

Last year Macon Area Habitat for Humanity partnered with the Mercer University Computer Science Department to host a programming contest which allowed students to learn how to use the Light O’Rama software which synchs the 65,000 Christmas lights around Chick-fil-A to music. Students then selected a song and created their own program. In 2018 the contest was opened to Bibb County High School students. Entries were received from all 8 Bibb County High Schools and Mercer University students this year.

On Wednesday, December 12 at 6:30pm we will announce the winners of the contest at Chick-fil-A on Tom Hill Sr. Blvd. An overall winners will be announced, along with first, second and third place for both the College and High School categories.

The partnership between Light More Homes, Mercer University and Bibb County Schools presents an opportunity for students to experience programming technology and then truly see their work in lights. The student programs have been running at Chick-fil-A for several weeks and are receiving very positive feedback.

The 2018 Light More Homes display includes 2 other new additions. The display includes “Habitat Houses” built by students in the William S. Hutchings College and Career Academy Construction Program. The houses remind spectators of the connection between the light display and Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. The other new addition is a text to donate options. Guests are invited to text MACONHABITAT to 77948 to make a donation directly to Habitat’s mission in Macon-Bibb and Jones Counties.
