Coliseum Health System welcomes Richard Rubio, MD as the new Chief Medical Officer for Coliseum Health System. Dr. Rubio will be responsible for quality and patient safety, medical education, strategic vision and physician executive leadership for Coliseum Medical Centers and Coliseum Northside Hospital. He will focus on enhancing and improving processes of care and operations.
 
Dr. Rubio attended the University of Texas at El Paso where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. After, he attended medical school at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. and then completed his clinical anesthesiology residency at the Medical College of Georgia. He continued his medical training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL, where he performed a fellowship in critical care medicine. Currently, Dr. Rubio is an MBA candidate at the University of Florida. He is board certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine.
 
For the past few years, Dr. Rubio has been involved in several leadership roles with Coliseum Health System including the medical staff representative for the Medication Diversion Committee, a member of the Clinical Value Assessment Team, and the OR Leadership Team at Coliseum Northside Hospital. He is involved with the Graduate Medical Education program, serving as the director of the anesthesiology rotation for the transitional internship program. He has also been involved in the Coliseum Northside Bylaws revision committee, Malignant Hyperthermia education, and the Clinical Competency Committee for the transitional internship program.
 
Coliseum Health System also welcomes a new Assistant Chief Medical Officer (ACMO), Shalabh "Mickey" Bansal, MD, MBA, FAAP. In this role, Dr. Bansal will provide support to the CMO while focusing on clinical excellence at Coliseum Northside Hospital.
 
Dr. Bansal received his undergraduate degree at Georgia Institute of Technology, following, he received his MBA from Georgia State University. He completed medical school at Saba University moving on to a pediatric residency at University of Iowa.
 
Dr. Bansal is a board certified pediatrician who currently serves as Co-Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at Coliseum Northside Hospital and Medical Director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine for Coliseum Health System.  He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Frist Humanitarian Award, the highest honor bestowed by HCA upon a physician whose work and life reflects the patient-centered, entrepreneurial and humanitarian values upon which HCA was founded. He is also the recipient of EmCare’s Pediatric Excellence Award for both clinical and operational achievements at his facilities.
