James-Bates-Brannan-Groover-LLP is proud to announce that James F. Banter has joined the firm’s Financial Institution and Commercial Litigation practice groups as an Associate.

James focuses his legal practice on banking and commercial litigation matters.  Prior to joining James Bates, James clerked for Federal Magistrate Judge Charles Weigle, serving in the United States District Court for the Middle District Georgia.

James is originally from Fort Valley, Georgia. He earned his B.S. in Political Science from Asbury University, graduating cum laude in 2013.  Thereafter, he moved to Macon to attend the Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2016, also graduating cum laude.  While at Mercer Law School, James was involved in the Student Bar Association, serving as student body president.  James also served as the Lead Articles Editor for the Mercer Law Review, and as president of the Business and Tax Law Society.

James currently serves in his community by volunteering at The Methodist Home for Children & Youth in Macon, and by serving as a representative for the Attorney General’s Legal Food Frenzy.  He and his wife, Sarah, are both members of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church.  James can be reached at [email protected] or 478.749.9992.
