The Macon Cohort of The University of Georgia's Certified Public Manager program is helping people in need wash their clothes once a month, to make sure they have clean clothes to wear. Laundry Love’s next event takes place Tuesday, August 7th and Wednesday, August 8th from 5 pm to 7 pm at the Git-R-Dun Laundromat, 1540 Rocky Creek Road, in Macon. Individuals or families can do up to three loads and quarters, detergent, and dryer sheets are be provided for free. Organizers encourage people to come early to register. The free laundry is on a first-come/first-served basis. Participants won't be asked to provide proof of income. Laundry Love says the money people save can be used for other needs like groceries or gas.

CPM participants were tasked with developing, participating in and helping to ensure sustainability of a social service project. The project chose Laundry Love (www.LaundryLove.org) and has been washing clothes in Macon for the past several months. Cohort members come from many different agencies in city, county and state governments – with various job functions and diverse backgrounds – and from all parts of the state. Laundry Love continues to serve the Macon residents that need help in getting their laundry washed and dried. The Macon Cohort of the Certified Public Manager program pays for up to three loads per family of laundry. Food and beverage is also offered while participants wash their clothes. No public tax dollars are used and the entire event is funded through personal contributions and outside donations.
