Commercial Furnishings, Inc. Owner, Bruce Johnson, Dies at 59

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Friday, May 4th, 2018

It is with deep sadness that the team of Commercial Furnishings, Inc. announces the sudden and untimely passing of the company’s owner, Bruce Johnson.  Bruce passed away on Tuesday, May 1st, as the result of complications sustained from a tragic accident that occurred the previous Saturday evening.  He was 59.

Under Johnson’s leadership, Commercial Furnishings, which he founded in 2004, grew from a tiny, two-person business to a thriving, full-service office furniture dealership with a team of six, plus five installers.  Although Bruce was not originally from Middle Georgia, during his nearly fifteen years as a Maconite, he grew to love the area and especially historic downtown Macon, where he chose to base his business.  Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Bruce had furniture in his blood for three generations, and had either worked in, or owned, a Steelcase office furniture dealership for over 30-plus years. Bruce was a graduate of Hillsdale College in Michigan with a degree in Political Economy.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Sarah, of Macon; son Kirk Johnson of Minneapolis, MN; sons Josh and Joseph Huckeba of Macon; as well as his father Craig, brother Tim, and sisters Sue and Amy, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are not yet set, but a Celebration of Life will be held soon.  The family and the Company will announce details as they become available.

As always, customer services will continue to be Commercial Furnishings’ top priority.  In the weeks and months ahead, the Commercial Furnishings team will be working closely with the Johnson family, as well as with Steelcase, to ensure a seamless transition and carry on the business to which Bruce devoted so much of his life and energy.  Your thoughts and prayers are appreciated during this challenging time.
