Macon Volunteer Clinic was awarded a grant in the amount of $23,000 by It’s The Journey, Inc., producer of the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer (formerly Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer). The grant will fund screening mammograms for working uninsured adults in the Macon-Bibb community.  This grant is one of 33 grants awarded by It’s The Journey this year to breast cancer programs across Georgia. 

“At Closing Ceremonies at the 2017 walk, we announced that we were rebranding the event to become the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. Our new name allows us to better capture the scope of our work and impact throughout the state. Our grants this year support programs reaching residents in over 100 counties, supporting nearly 20,000 Georgians,” said Kimberly Goff, Executive Director of It’s The Journey. “We are proud that our grants remain focused on local needs and impact the lives of Georgians, providing crucial access to services ranging from clinical breast exams, screening mammograms, diagnostics, genetic counseling and testing, to direct financial assistance”

“This is a real blessing for Macon-Bibb,” said Rita McCurdy, Executive Director of Macon Volunteer Clinic. “Our patients are stretching their paychecks just as far as they can and don’t have hundreds of dollars to pay out of pocket for a mammogram. Because of this grant they are able to get screened at no cost to them.”

It’s The Journey, Inc. produces the Georgia 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, an annual endurance walk that raises funds for breast health and breast cancer programs in Georgia.  Since 2002, It’s The Journey has raised $14 million and funded 335 breast cancer and breast health programs in the state.
