Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Thursday, March 22nd, 2018

Macon Volunteer Clinic will be hosting DOCSTOCK on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 6-9 pm at Emerson Ballroom in historic downtown.  Slated during National Volunteer Week, the night will recognize and honor the diverse volunteer workforce comprised of more than 250 physicians, nurses, medical professionals, students and office staff that gift their time and professional skills to the medically underserved population of Bibb County.

In 2017, the MVC volunteer team logged an impressive 5,964 hours resulting in an estimated service value of more than $373,000. A total of 641 patients were provided 5,294 patient encounters in the past year due to these amazing care givers.

The Macon Volunteer Clinic is the only clinic in Bibb County that provides free primary medical and dental care, as well as non-narcotic medication assistance, to uninsured, working adults who live in Bibb County and whose income is equal to or less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.  Services include, but are not limited to, primary medical care; dental cleanings, extractions and restorative care; dermatological care; eye exams and prescription eyeglasses; non-narcotic prescription medication assistance; cancer screenings such as mammograms, PAP smears, and colonoscopies; laboratory analyses; x-rays; diagnostic services; dietary and nutrition counseling; mental health counseling; health education; and outpatient surgery.

Through the Presidential Volunteer Service Award program, a portion of the evening will be dedicated to recognizing “Top MVC Volunteers” who individually acquired between 100-500 volunteer hours last year alone.  Each will receive a certificate and signed letter from President Trump and be “pinned” for their outstanding year of service.

“April is National Volunteer Month so there is no better time for us to thank our many volunteers who give so generously of their time to help those in need,” said Rita McCurdy, the clinic’s Executive Director. “This is a special night for us as we thank all those who make it possible for us to provide free care to working adults in our community who would otherwise go without the healthcare and medications they need. We recently celebrated 15 successful years of providing care here in Macon, which just shows the enormous power of volunteers in our community.”
