Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Friday, March 30th, 2018

Begin the day with a tasty breakfast, rub shoulders with elected officials and discuss the latest legislative agendas affecting agriculture in Georgia during the 36th Ham and Egg Legislative Breakfast at Fort Valley State University April 4.

The event begins at 8 a.m. in the C.W. Pettigrew Farm and Community Life Center on FVSU’s campus. Tickets can be purchased online through the Wildcat Ticket Office (wildcatticketoffice.com/event-tickets/).  Registration is $20 until March 23 and late registration is $30 until March 30. Ticket will be available at the door, but seating is limited.

Representatives from the state legislature, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Georgia Department of Agriculture, the Georgia Farm Bureau and Fort Valley State University are scheduled to make presentations during the event.

“This year’s objective for the Ham and Egg breakfast is to provide our constituents with the opportunity to get updated on issues affecting the state of agriculture in the state of Georgia from the federal and state perspective,” said Joy-Moten Thomas, chair of the breakfast planning committee and FVSU’s assistant administrator of community development and outreach.

Moten-Thomas said attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions specific to agriculture to local legislators from the Georgia General Assembly.

FVSU’s Ham and Egg Breakfast evolved from the Ham and Egg Show created in 1916 by Houston County Extension Agent Otis O’Neal. That first show featured 39 hams and 17 dozen eggs. Retired FVSU professor Dr. Glenwood Hill revived the event as the Ham and Egg Breakfast in 1982.
