SOS Brian Kemp Kicks Off The Third Annual Peanut Straw Poll at The Georgia National Fair in Perry

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, October 6th, 2017

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp will kick off the third annual Peanut Straw Poll at the Georgia National Fair in Perry through October 15th. The Peanut Poll was started in 2015 as a way to engage Georgians and encourage excitement about upcoming elections. In past years, voters have chosen Georgia’s candidates for the SEC Presidential Primary and for President of the United States. Because municipal elections will be on the ballot this year, voters have the opportunity to support their hometown high school football teams in the Gridiron Showdown.

“In last year’s presidential election, the Peanut Poll was the largest straw poll in the nation,” said Kemp. “While we may not have federal elections in November 2017, we can still capture the same energy and excitement with a great new straw poll.”

The Gridiron Showdown is an exciting competition for Georgia’s high school football teams. Participants can vote at our booth in the Georgia Grown Building at the Georgia National Fair or by going online to PeanutPoll.com.  Anyone outside of the fairgrounds is able to vote once per day to support their favorite team. The Georgia high school team that receives the most votes will receive a grand prize. Secretary Kemp will enlist a special guest to read the daily standings at 5 PM each day.

“It’s fall in Georgia and that means football” said Kemp.  “I still cheer for the Clarke Central Gladiators that I played for many years ago, and other Georgians have the same passion for their teams.”
