CGTC Leads Technical College System in Graduation and Placement Rates

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Tuesday, October 31st, 2017

Reports compiled by the Technical College System of Georgia in October examining graduate and placement rates for its 22 institutions revealed that Central Georgia Technical College led the System in graduating students for academic year 2017.

TCSG’s Graduates and Placement Academic Year 2017 Report gathered by its Data, Planning, and Research Center is a system-wide glance at graduates, year-to-year comparisons, and placement rates. The 2017 version indicates that CGTC led the state in the total number of unduplicated graduates, awards conferred, associate degrees awarded, diplomas awarded, and Technical Certificates of Credit awarded.

CGTC accounted for 10 percent of the System’s total number of graduates, 3,474 out of 34,600. The College’s 6,012 total awards conferred is 10.2 percent of the System’s total. Total number of unduplicated graduates and total number of awards conferred are an 8.4 and 4.4 percent increase from 2016, respectively.

Placement rates analyzed in the report showed that CGTC achieved a total of 99.7 percent in placement overall, and in-field placement rate of 91 percent. The College’s in-field placement rate is four percentage points higher than the system average of 87.4 percent. The average of TCSG’s total placement is 99.2 percent.

Total placement and in-field placement rate calculate the number of students who graduate and are employed, choose to enter the military, or continue their education, and the number of students who are employed directly in their field of study, respectively.

Graduation and placement rates have had an impact on the College’s enrollment. Students are enrolling in programs that, semester after semester, graduate employable students for the area’s workforce.

CGTC’s current Fall 2017 semester is its largest to date. Enrollment is attributed to several factors including the growth of high school dual enrollment programs and commitment to service by faculty and staff, according to vice president of Student Affairs, Craig Jackson.

“Through a collaborative effort, CGTC’s total enrollment has reached the largest since the merger with 7,970 students; a 2.7% increase from the previous year,” Jackson said. “The faculty and staff continue to work cohesively to provide the best options and customer service to our students.  This includes the enormous growth in our dual enrollment Move on When Ready program along with the continued availability of numerous credit enrollment programs.”

“Also, a true testament of the quality of service provided is the fact that CGTC leads TCSG in recent graduate totals. I am extremely proud of each one of the College’s departments for their commitment to excellence and providing stellar customer service.”
