First Residents Begin at Coliseum Medical Centers

A white coat ceremony was held on Friday June 30, 2017 to welcome the residents who matched with the graduate medical education program at Coliseum Medical Centers. Ten internal medicine residents and four psychiatry residents officially joined the residency staff of Coliseum Medical Centers on Saturday July 1, 2017.  These are the first residents to join Coliseum Medical Centers since being named a teaching hospital.

The following are the ten Internal Medicine residents:

Maryha Javed, Windsor University

Brandon Kirshner,  University of Medicine and Health Sciences-St. Kitts

Nicolas Monaco, University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine

Anum Niazi, St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine (Grand Cayman)

Natalie Rodziewicz, University Of Medical Sciences Center For Medical Education In English

Kayla Szolek, Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine-Carolinas Campus

Muhammad Uneib, Ross University School of Medicine

The following are the four Psychiatry residents:

Timothy Podesta, Trinity School of Medicine

Tamie Wells, East Tennessee State University James H Quillen College of Medicine

The hospital plans to add 10 additional internal medicine residents each year for a total of 30 residents and four psychiatry residents each year for a total of 16 residents.  Additionally, Coliseum plans to add residency positions in Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine as well as a Transitional Year program in subsequent years with the goal of offering 100 residency positions by 2020.  The programs are enhanced through an academic affiliation with Mercer University’s School of Medicine. Mercer University will provide faculty support, research opportunities, medical libraries, and simulation support.
