Volunteer Program Awards $10,000 in Scholarships to Local Students

The volunteer program at Coliseum Health System recently awarded a total of $10,000 in academic scholarships to local students. Ten individual scholarships worth $1,000 were presented to graduating high school seniors and post-secondary students pursuing careers in healthcare. Volunteers from Coliseum Medical Centers and Coliseum Northside Hospital raise scholarship funds and select qualified, exceptional student recipients each year.
 
The recipients of the 2017 scholarships are:

• Afnan Khan is a graduate of Central High School and plans to attend Emory University; he is pursuing a career in Internal Medicine.

• Ariel Fortson is a graduate of Rutland High School and plans to attend The University of Florida; she is pursuing a career in Occupational Therapy.

• Christiny Reeves is a graduate of First Presbyterian Day School and plans to attend The University of Georgia; she is pursuing a career in Medicine/Proctology.

• Courtney Knight is a current student in the Mercer University College of Pharmacy where she is pursuing a career in Pharmacy.

• Harlisa Lockett is a graduate of Crawford County High School and plans to attend Kennesaw State University; she is pursuing a career in Nutrition.

• Katlyn Smaha is a graduate of First Presbyterian Day School and plans to attend The University of Georgia; she is pursuing a career in Dermatology.

• Mac Willingham is a graduate of First Presbyterian Day School and plans to attend The University of Georgia; he is pursuing a career in Medicine/Surgery.

• Perlie Do is a current student at Mercer University where she is pursuing a career in Nursing.

• Sarah Baldree is a graduate of Central High School and plans to attend Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts; she is pursuing a career in Medicine.

• Tift Palmer is a current student at the University of Mississippi where she is pursuing a career in Nursing.
