Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Thursday, June 1st, 2017

The Gallery at Macon Arts Alliance is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by Macon artist Marthalyn Fortson. This exhibition will open First Friday June 2, 2017 from 5-8pm and run through June 30, 2017. The jewel-like abstract paintings explore both subtle and strong color interactions with the use of translucent shapes in complex compositions that relate directly to the natural light of nature. The show will also feature ceramic sculpture by Amy McCullough and pieces by the Middle Georgia Woodturners. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

Artist Statement by Fortson

"Light coming out of Darkness' is a central theme in my life and in my work and has always fascinated me! When light pours through my studio windows, it illuminates a portion of my canvas and gives it a glow. I want to capture that magic. I enjoy being outside and often walk in the woods as a break from painting. At various times of day, the light filtering through the trees almost mesmerizes me. I want to transfer those dancing shadows, shapes, and patterns to my canvas. Rembrandt and Vermeer are my favorite artists, largely because of their incredible handling of light."
