The Medical Center, Navicent Health Auxiliary is pleased to announce the purchase of a new charging kiosk that will benefit patients and their loved ones. The kiosk will allow those waiting at MCNH to charge phones, tablets and other handheld devices in a secure location.
 
The kiosk, located on the hospital’s second floor, stands at approximately five feet tall and contains five individual secure charging compartments. The kiosk accepts Apple, Android and other model products. Each charging compartment can accommodate phones, tablets, laptops, portable video game units and other handheld devices.
 
Those utilizing the kiosk may place their device inside a charging compartment, connecting it to the proper charger, then close the compartment’s door. The door is secured when the user creates a secret personal identification number to lock the compartment’s door. Only those with the PIN will be able to unlock the door and remove charged devices, ensuring security if the user needs to step away from the kiosk for any length of time. Lighting on each compartment indicates when a device is fully charged, and multiple devices may be charged in a single compartment. Instructions for using the kiosk are available in English and Spanish.
 
“Our Auxiliary exists to improve the overall experience for our visitors. Through fundraisers and volunteer hours, Auxilians give back to our visitors in numerous ways. This new kiosk will provide a needed service to those spending extended lengths of time at the Medical Center, and we are pleased to offer this service at no cost,” said Vivian Thomas, MCNH Auxiliary President.
 
Navicent Health employee Carol Ann Rector saw the need for a charging station within the hospital, researched the idea and presented a proposal to the Auxiliary asking for funding. The kiosk was purchased for $10,000 was funded by the MCNH Auxilians through various fundraisers. The Auxiliary hosts a number of annual and semiannual fundraisers at MCNH to fund medical equipment, supplies and other items that benefit patients and their loved ones. Last year, Auxilians raised more than $121,000.00 for purchases including the kiosk, sleeper recliners for intensive care units, and a deaf talk unit to assist the hearing impaired. In addition to fundraising, Auxilians also contribute their time, donating approximately 43,000 hours of volunteer service to MCNH during the past year.
