The Fox Classic Hits Network Expands

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Monday, May 8th, 2017

The Fox, a classic hits station in Macon, is now simultaneously broadcasting its programming on WCEH FM 98.3 and WCEH AM 610.  These stations can be heard by listeners in parts of Bleckley, Crisp, Dodge, Dooly, Houston, Macon, Peach, Pulaski and Wilcox counties.

“Since we put this unique format on the air in Macon about a year ago, listeners in other parts of Central Georgia have asked us how they could pick us up. When the opportunity to purchase these heritage stations in Hawkinsville presented itself, we decided to take advantage of it. We’ve immediately increased our potential audience by more than 112%,” said John Timms, president of Central Georgia Radio.

Timms and partner Oscar Leverette, a longtime Macon broadcaster, developed the concept for The Fox, based on bringing back local radio with experienced, well-known, local personalities. Leverette was able to see the launch of this concept before his untimely death in April 2016.

In addition to classic hits covering four decades, The Fox has well-known Middle Georgia radio personalities, with more than 160 years of combined broadcast experience.  Ben Sandifer, a 2016 inductee in the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, anchors the morning show from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. weekdays. A key element on this show is twice hourly newscasts, written and delivered by Mary Therese, a Warner Robins native who now makes her home in the Washington, D.C. area.

The traditional workday hours are covered by Kim Kennedy, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and Jim Jones, from 12 noon to 3 p.m.  Gail Daniels, who is a former Billboard magazine Air Personality of the Year and Music Director of the Year, entertains listeners each day from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Fox is also the first Macon radio station to broadcast in crystal-clear HD, at 107.1-HD3.
