CGTC Announces Keynote Speaker for Commencement Ceremony

Dr. Alvetta Peterman Thomas, president of Southern Crescent Technical College, will deliver Central Georgia Technical College’s commencement keynote address Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m. The ceremony will honor associate degree and diploma credit program candidates and GED graduates. Over 600 students are expected to participate.

Thomas is the newly appointed president of Southern Crescent Technical College. There, she oversees nearly 650 full and part-time employees on five campus locations over nine counties in Georgia’s South Atlanta region.

Prior to her arrival at SCTC, she served eight years as president of Atlanta Technical College. Under her leadership in 2012, Atlanta Technical College was named the 2012 Technical College System of Georgia College of the Year. During her tenure, she worked to increase enrollment, expand program offerings, develop global partnerships and expand campus facilities. Thomas joined SCTC in December 2016.

“We are honored to have Dr. Thomas speak at CGTC’s commencement ceremony,” said Craig B. Jackson, vice president for Student Affairs at CGTC. “Her knowledge and passion for education will be a testament to share with our graduates.  We look forward to her sharing a message of encouragement with our graduates as they prepare to successfully enter the workforce or move on in their educational endeavors.”

CGTC’s commencement ceremony will be held at the Macon Centreplex Coliseum, Friday, May 5 at 7 p.m., and is free and open to the public. Additionally, CGTC’s ceremony will be live streamed and may be viewed at www.centralgatech.edu. A special link will be available the day of the event.
