Camp Martha Johnston is a scenic 165 acre camp in Crawford County that has been owned and operated by Girl Scouts since 1922. It has both units with rustic cabins and Sweetwater Retreat, a climate controlled facility with meeting rooms, a dining hall, and sleeping quarters.

The beginning of June marks the start of Girl Scout camp season, and with that comes the thought of campfires and s’mores. In a recent Girl Scouts Research Institute study, girls identified camping as their most memorable outdoor experience in Girl Scouts. This research revealed that girls who participated in outdoor activities in Girl Scouts were stronger challenge seekers and problem solvers, much-needed positive educational goals. The effects of monthly outdoor exposure were even more pronounced for at-risk girls; nearly 800 Girl Scouts in our community meet this need.

Improving facilities at Camp Martha Johnston supports the life changing program outcomes of girls, including developing a strong sense of self, positive values, healthy relationships and seeking challenges. Community support to maintain the beauty and safety of these special properties make the continuation of these life-changing, memory-making programs possible.
