On Tuesday, March 14, Gov. Nathan Deal presented a proclamation and the Georgia Senate adopted a resolution honoring Georgia hospitals, including members of Navicent Health, for their response to Hurricane Matthew in October 2016.

The resolution commended Georgia hospitals for demonstrating their commitment to the safety and wellbeing of residents through extensive collaboration, preparation and response to the storm.

The Medical Center, Navicent Health serves as the Regional Coordinating Hospital for Region F (Henry, Spalding, Butts, Pike, Lamar, Monroe, Upson, Bibb, Jones, Crawford, Peach and Houston). During Hurricane Matthew, MCNH also served as acting Regional Coordinating Hospital for Region J (Screven, Effingham, Bulloch, Candler, Evans, Tattnall, Toombs, Long, Bryan, Liberty, Chatham, McIntosh, Glynn and Camden).

When Hurricane Matthew assaulted Georgia’s coast on October 7-8, 2016, Regional Coordinating Hospitals including MCNH collaborated to evacuate patients and residents from coastal counties. MCNH accepted hospitalized patients and others in need of care. Carlyle Place, Navicent Health also provided shelter for evacuees from a sister continuing care retirement community at St. Simon’s Island, Ga.

“Hurricane Matthew provided an opportunity for hospitals throughout the state to demonstrate that continued commitment to healthcare planning, along with collaboration among healthcare providers and community partners, can save lives in the midst of disaster,” said Steve Ramsey, Emergency Management Specialist for Navicent Health.
