Lane Southern Orchards Announces 2016 Corn Maze Design

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2016

Lane Southern Orchards partners with the Redding Family and the Otis Redding Foundation in Macon, GA.

In 2016, Lane Southern Orchards celebrates its ninth year of their 6-acre corn maze. The designs change every year and this year the theme is inspired by what would be Otis Redding’s 75th birthday.

“I knew this year marked Otis’ 75th birthday and wanted to follow the lead of the Georgia Department of Economic Developments theme for the state, The Year of Georgia Music!” says Wendy R. Barton, marketing director for Lane Southern Orchards. “What better way to celebrate than with the iconic, Otis Redding.”

“It’s exciting to see the entire state celebrating the Year of Georgia Music, and Lane Southern Orchards has created a unique way to memorialize one of Georgia’s music legends,” said Kevin Langston, deputy commissioner for Tourism at the Georgia Department of Economic Development. “The corn maze as well as the many other events taking place in Macon to celebrate the 75th birthday of Otis Redding will be an event worthy of the name. I encourage visitors and locals alike to head to Lane Southern Orchards to partake in the celebration and to experience the Otis Redding corn maze.”

“I am so honored to see the legacy of my father living on in so many different forms,” says Karla Redding-Andrews, daughter of Otis Redding and executive director for the Otis Redding Foundation. “My family loves to see his memory honored in all kinds of ways, and it is so cool to see his face in so many places during this huge 75th birthday year.

“We are looking forward to Celebrating 75 Years of Otis Redding with a whole weekend of events, September 9 – 11. We will even have a peach beer, specially made from Macon Beer Company, to celebrate my father’s birthday!”

There will be trivia questions hidden in the maze about Otis, his music and legacy to help you find our way out if you get lost.  If you still can’t find your way out, our corn cops will come and help you.

The maze will open to the public on October 1st and is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12:00-6:00pm.  For every ticket purchased, you will be entered into a drawing to receive an Otis Redding gift basket, with a T-shirt and other King of Soul goodies.
