Local Pedestrian Safety Stakeholder Summit August 16th

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Tuesday, July 26th, 2016

The Macon-Bibb County Health Department announces a local Pedestrian Safety Stakeholder Summit on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, 8:30 a.m. until noon, at the Macon-Bibb County Government Center.  This Summit replaces the monthly Macon-Bibb County Pedestrian Fatality Review Board meeting scheduled for that morning.

Speakers for the Summit include Mayor Robert Reichert, GDOT representatives, Planning & Zoning Planner Brad Belo, Board of Health and Pedestrian Fatality Review Board member Chris Tsavatewa, and Bob Dallas, an Atlanta Civil Engineer who has served as Georgia's Highway Safety Director, a planning commissioner, and currently is a MARTA board member.

Macon-Bibb County has the second highest pedestrian fatality incidence rate in Georgia.  In late 2014, the Macon-Bibb County Board of Health made pedestrian safety a public health priority.  Through the efforts of local Commissioners and BOH members Elaine Lucas and Bert Bivins, the Pedestrian Fatality Review Board was established by city-county ordinance.  This Summit is a strategic initiative of the Review Board.
