Press release from the issuing company

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015

At a press conference on Tuesday, The Macon Economic Development Commission and the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce unveiled a  new “Macon Scorecard”.  The Macon Scorecard is an instrument designed by the Macon Economic Development Commission to report the success of new business recruitment and retention over the past ten years.

In 2004, MEDC began a private-public economic development initiative called Macon NowThe goal of this partnership was to expand the tax base by creating more jobs, increase the level of consumer spending at local businesses, diversify the local economy and improve the overall quality of life in the area. During its 10 years, Macon Now’s 97 investors contributed nearly $5 million dollars.   The scorecard is the document used by MEDC to report progress to the Macon Now investors as well as to inform the community at large about the continued growth that has occurred in Macon-Bibb County. Growth is measured by the number of new companies locating in Macon-Bibb County, the number of companies that have expanded and the number of new and retained direct jobs, indirect jobs and induced jobs generated by those businesses.

In celebration of the tenth year of the Macon Now initiative, a document was created that would embody the impact that Macon Now has had on our community - 10,000 jobs in 10 years!  The document highlights information about each year’s growth in investment, new and retained jobs, while explaining why various companies chose to locate or to expand their business here. Additionally the scorecard summarizes the qualities that make Macon-Bibb County attractive to our specific target industries.

The design of the scorecard was a collaborative effort with the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, the Macon Economic Development Commission (MEDC) and the marketing company M & R Marketing Group which recently won an Addy Award for the publication.
