GeorgiaFIRST Robotics, a STEM-based organization for youth across the state, and FIRST in South Carolina are partnering with Mercer University to host the Peachtree District Qualifier Event at Hawkins Arena on Mercer’s Macon campus April 5 and 6.

The Peachtree District Championship is the state championship of high school-level robotics and challenges teams of students to build robots to compete in head-to-head challenges. The top 50 teams from the Peachtree District will receive an invitation to compete against the best in the district.\

Event organizers describe the competition as “combining the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. They say it’s the ultimate sport for the mind, and that high-school student participants call it ‘the hardest fun you’ll ever have.’”

“We are thrilled to again host the GeorgiaFIRST Robotics championship on Mercer’s campus,” said Dr. Kelly Holloway, assistant vice president for enrollment management. “Five participants will be recognized with a FIRST Robotics scholarship to attend Mercer University, and students from across the state and South Carolina will have the opportunity to engage with our campus community through campus tours, a STEM lab tour and a student social as they compete.”
