Macon Area Habitat for Humanity is Commemorating 35 Years of Constructing Affordable Homeownership Opportunities

Wednesday, April 21st, 2021

For Macon Area Habitat for Humanity, 2021 marks 35 years of building homes, communities, and hope by constructing simple, decent, affordable homes. In 1986, Macon Area Habitat for Humanity was formed by a Sunday school at Northminster Presbyterian Church that had the vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live. The affiliate completed its first home in 1987 and has since partnered with over 120 families in Macon-Bibb and Jones counties to provide affordable homeownership opportunities though new home construction. In 2005 the affiliate became a leader in neighborhood revitalization with work in Lynmore Estates and then added a second focus neighborhood, the historic Pleasant Hill neighborhood, in 2018. With construction of each new home, partner homeowners are able to realize the dream of homeownership and move themselves and their families into a decent, affordable, new home.

The community can join in the celebration through an upcoming virtual event.

35th Anniversary Virtual Cocktail Party – April 29th

To celebrate this milestone, MAHFH welcomes the community to participate in the 35th Anniversary Celebration to be held virtually on April 29th. The community is invited to join in for an hour of celebrating and remembering the past 35 years of building homes, communities, and hope in Macon. Tickets are available online at www.maconhabitat.org. During this Zoom celebration, participants will hear from current and past MAHFH leaders, board members, homeowners, and supporters.  This event is a part of our Covering our Base campaign. We are fundraising $35,000 to put a new and greatly needed roof over our offices, training room, and construction storage facility. Sponsorship opportunities are available for the 35th Celebration.
