Steve Williams Honored for CGTC Board Service

Staff Report From Middle Georgia CEO

Monday, June 15th, 2015

Steve Williams of Warner Robins was honored Wednesday, June 10 for his service to Central Georgia Technical College as a member of the College’s Board of Directors. Dr. Sarah Hawthorne, current CGTC Board chair, and Dr. Ivan Allen, president of the College, recognized him for more than a decade of faithful service.

Williams has served on the board since 2003. After serving four three-year terms, Williams has now rotated off of the Board and was recognized at the June CGTC Board of Directors meeting for his long-standing and dedicated service to the faculty, staff, and students in middle Georgia. During his tenure, the College witnessed substantial enrollment increases, exponential expansion of Economic Development programs and services, and the development of a Global Initiatives program.

Williams was initially appointed to the former Middle Georgia Technical College (MGTC) Board of Directors by the late Billy G. Edenfield, president emeritus of MGTC. Upon the consolidation of MGTC and CGTC in July 2013, Williams began his term as a director for the new Central Georgia Technical College.

“I am honored to be a part of this fine institution,” said Williams. “Central Georgia Tech truly changes students’ lives. I’ve been able to be a small part of this great college and now with the expansion into international areas, we have the opportunity to affect even more lives. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve.”

Williams served as Chair of the MGTC Board during a change in administration when Dr. Ivan Allen was named president, upon Edenfield’s retirement. He was also part of the Board, providing guidance and support, during the merger of CGTC and MGTC, ultimately forming one of the largest two-year colleges in Georgia. Williams has also served as a tireless advocate and supporter of the MGTC and CGTC Foundations. Over the years, he has played a significant role in helping raise funds to support scholarships and other projects at the College.

After serving more than 27 years in the banking industry, Williams is currently President and CEO of Reliable Global Systems, LLC in Warner Robins. He is very active with the Robins Regional Chamber of Commerce and several other community and civic organizations, including the 21st Century Partnership, Museum of Aviation, and the Workforce Investment Board.
